Special Projects are grants made by the Board of Directors to projects of interest which do not fall within one of the regular program areas. The following are
brief descriptions of existing 2002 grants.
Camaldoli Hermitage, Big Sur, California Grant to Monastery of Benedictine Order on California coast at Big
Sur. The property was damaged during severe storms two years ago and this grant will go for land stabilization programs to protect the Monastery's property, as well as adjacent properties from further erosion,
slippage and slides. $7,500.00
Center for Arts, Religion and
Education, Berkeley, California Grant to Center (part of the Graduate Theological Union) to assist in the development
of programs, courses and seminars relating to presentation of sacred dance and incorporation in liturgy. $10,000.00
Gales Creek Camp Foundation, Lake Oswego, Oregon Grant to support summer camp at Gales Creek, Oregon, which provides
camping experiences for diabetic children from the Pacific Northwest area. $7,500.00
The Scottish Community Foundation, Edinburgh, Scotland Second installment of three-year grant totaling $30,000.00 to
assist in the establishment of a community foundation for Scotland. Several American community foundations and consultants are helping the Foundation develop grant-making structures and practices. Our
grant will provide seed money to assist in staffing support to launch the Foundation. $10,000.00
