The amount of funds distributed in each of these categories may change from year to year.
By remaining flexible
about dollar amounts within each category, the Foundation is able to be more responsive to specific funding in its areas of interest.
PERFORMING ARTS GRANTS ~The Foundation's current major interests are primarily opera and Shakespearean theater.
ENVIRONMENT & ECOLOGY GRANTS
~The Foundation supports programs to protect threatened
areas and species, education programs (particularly directed towards youth), and support of collaborative organizations active in the field of ecological concerns.
HISTORIC INTEREST GRANTS ~The Foundation supports programs throughout the world in three areas:
A. Preservation and
restoration of historic sites and objects; B. Interpretation of historic sites, objects and events; and C. Preservation of the historic record through research, oral histories, archival work, training of curators and personnel, and dissemination of the
historic record through conferences and publications.
SPECIAL PROJECT GRANTS ~The Special Projects Grants are made by the Directors to projects of interest which do not fall within one of the aforementioned regular program areas.
DISCRETIONARY GRANTS ~The Directors of the Foundation are authorized and encouraged to award grant funds of $100,000 to appropriate organizations during the year. These grants do not go
through the regular grant process and must be within the mission statement of the Foundation.
OFFBEAT GRANTS
~The Foundation's Offbeat Grant title is given to an
existing grant that the Board of Directors elects and names annually based solely on the unique and sometimes amusing quality of the project.
