BACK TO SPECIAL PROJECTS 2003

City Guides (San Francisco Public Library), San Francisco, California 
City Guides has conducted free historical and architectural walking tours of the neighborhoods of San Francisco for more than 20 years.  This grant will assist in providing training classes for the annual new group of guide trainees, usually 40 to 50 in number.  Guides make a minimum commitment of 50 voluntary hours per year for two tours and most stay with the program five years or more.  In 1999, City Guides provided a total of 1,745 tours reaching an audience of 15,507 people.

Problems in Ethics and Policing, Escondido, California
Continued support for organization which provides counseling and support programs for police and public service officers and their families throughout the State of California.

The Scottish Community Foundation, Edinburgh, Scotland
First installment of three-year grant totaling $30,000 to assist in the establishment of a community foundation for Scotland. Several American community foundations and consultants are helping the Foundation develop grant-making structures and practices.  Our grant will provide seed money to assist in staffing support to launch the Foundation. 
               $10,000.00

Seva Foundation, Berkeley, California
Grant to support travel expenses for ophthalmologist experts to go to Nepal, Tibet and India and for support for organization that sets up and administers programs that restore sight and helps communities fight disease.  The Foundation has supported this highly successful program for several years.  
               $5,000.00
