Welcome to the L. J. Skaggs and Mary C. Skaggs Foundation website. I hope you will find the contents informative and enjoyable to read. We update the website in April and November of each year and wish to incorporate suggestions to make the site more "user friendly" and of service to the philanthropic community, our grantees and applicants for grants. Please contact us with any comments and observations you may have.
~ At its November, 2007, meeting, the Board of Directors reaffirmed the suspension of the active grant making program of the Foundation pending receipt of additional funding from the Skaggs estates. The amount and timing of the receipt of funds is keyed to the life of Mrs. Skaggs who will be celebrating her 108th birthday in January 2008. We are unable at this time to determine when the Foundation will be able to resume its grant making program. The Directors hope this can occur with 2010 grants. Mrs. Skaggs' desire is to keep the Foundation in existence and to continue its present level of staffing and operations until additional funds are received. To accomplish this wish, she has agreed on her behalf and on behalf of her estate to underwrite the administrative expenses of the Foundation until the full active grant making program can be resumed.
~ At the November Board meeting, after a thorough review of the Foundation's financial circumstances, the Board decided to make several small grants in 2008 to current grantees to provide additional funds for projects which have been supported for many years by the Foundation. The 5 grants for a total of $55,000.00 are reported in the grants section of this website. 2008 will be the 42nd year grants have been made by our Foundation. During this time, the Foundation has distributed in excess of $37,000,000.00 to more than 2,000 different grantees and programs in the United States and abroad. These grants are a wonderful tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Skaggs and the Directors pledge to continue the innovative and dynamic grants policies established by Mr. and Mrs. Skaggs.
